Conference: Peace in the Streets

The 2018 Peace in the Streets Conference will consist of half day sessions on Peace in the Hood; Peace in the Home; and Peace in the Schools, consisting of a lead-off keynote speaker and then two-hour breakout concurrent interactive workshops honing in on key subtopics.
Keynoters include Dr. Carl Taylor, Criminology, Michigan State University; Pastor Barry Randolph, Church of the Messiah; Krysti Edmonds, Counselor on Domestic Abuse; Barbara L. Jones, Community Dispute Specialist; and Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish, Palestinian Peace Advocate. Among the workshop topics are: Police-Community-Youth Dialogue; Crime Reduction Options; Inter-personal Violence Prevention; Inter-group and Gang Activity; Combating Human Trafficking; Settling Family Disputes and Teen Drug Abuse Prevention; Gender Roles and Equality; The Human Effects of Immigration; Cultures of Peace and Violence Prevention in Schools; Overcoming Differences in Schools; Bullying and Suicide Prevention; Restorative Practice.
The Conference will conclude on Saturday afternoon with a “Hands Across the Mile Roads” community “happening” to symbolize unity across dividing roads in Metropolitan Detroit.
